The hardnoses will just call you a kiddie.

LOL!

In that case, I sincerely hope that they put every last nestegg dollar into airline equity "investiments", prior to getting their lunatic wet dreams of "flying alcatraz islands of security" imposed on the industry.

Unless they get a law passed REQUIRING people to line up at the check-in gates, there remains something called "free choice" in a FREE country. Make air travel sufficiently onerous, obnoxious, abusisive, and painful, and people will vote with their dollars, and the seats of their pants -- which will be planted firmly in the family sedan.

Not alltogether a bad thing, mind you. People will rediscover the joy of cross-country travel "the old fashioned way". They will get to see "flyover country" from GROUND level. Ever hear of a book called "Blue Highways"? There's an entire America UNKNOWN by hundreds of millions of rush-rush-hustle-bustle get-me-there-NOW folks.

Piling the family into the car, Triple-A "triptic" in the glovebox (screw the GPS, get it on PAPER! :), camera loaded with Kodachrome (there is NOTHING like Kodachrome -- enjoy it while you can!), and a nice, leisurely TRIP across the country...

It will probably keep a LOT of families from breaking up, too, what with it being the ONLY time they actually spend ANY significant amount of "quality time" together!

So hey, go right ahead -- finish the job of converting air travel into hell in the sky. Make it completely repellant to as many folks as possible. The downside is that we the taxpayers will natrually be forced to bail out the SOBs who ran the industry into the red, but that's the way of the socialist, and people DO get the government they deserve. Don't like it? Then stop electing Democrats and "Democrat-Lite" rulers. Until then, shut up, bend over, and fork out.

But, that aside, there is nothing but upside to families traveling together, cross country, in their cars.

I myself resolved to NEVER again subject myself to the abuse that air travel has become -- and this was BEFORE 9/11! Mind you, I used to enjoy flying. Always tried for a window seat (NOT over the wing), and loved takeoffs and landings.

But, gradually, the rudeness factor of the "flight attendants" went through the roof, to the point of outright abusiveness (and consistently so). And, the skill level of the "man behind the wheel" went throught the floor.

After a bunch of white-knuckle landings, and "near-death experiences" due to "equipment malfunctions" (resulting in "we THINK we can land successfully" announcements) -- combined with angry S(&D)OBs "wif addatood") patrolling the aisles -- I finally said screw this crap (actuall statement used words beginning with "F" and "S"), and resolved to stay on the ground, unless I ever manage to get my OWN airplane (in other words, forever).

I know that I am hardly alone in my sentiments. And calls for pushing the bar even further into the "jailhaus in the sky" region, will only hasten the day that everyone travels on the ground, other than those FEW poor souls who MUST travel by air -- and even for them, you can bet good money that alternatives will quickly flesh out (i.e., teleconferencing, elimintation of unnecessary "ego-stroking for da boss" meetings, and so forth).

A once-great mode of transportation has been ruined, likely forever. And the scumbag terrorists aren't the main culprits, other than in the sense that they provided an excuse for those who longed for the day of completly regimented air travel.

Let the hardnoses laugh. Remember, the harder the nose, the easier it shatters when it runs into a brick wall. And that's where they're headed with their brand of "logic", LOL!
