I was bit by a tick in 1994. I spent 48 days in the hospital in 1995. I was attacked by a little tiny organism that is referred to as "Lyme Disease". Until it's diagnosis, there were numerous varied symtoms attached, as well.
I am glad that all I had was a little bug that can be treated. This sounds worse... and definitely looks worse!
