Ed Koch: I'm Backing Independent Lieberman
New York's "Mayor for Life" and one of the country's most prominent Democrats says he's backing Joe Lieberman's independent run for U.S. Senate.
"There's no blood oath binding him not to run as an independent," Edward Koch told NewsMax.
Koch predicts that Lieberman, running as an independent, would win the general election handily. He also noted that Lieberman would continue to caucus with Democrats when he takes his seat in the Senate.
Even though he's in trouble with the extreme left wing of his party, Lieberman, like most Democrats, was right to support President Bush on the War in Iraq, says Koch.
"The issue of terrorism is the only issue on which I agree with the president, but it goes to the issue of the survival of this country, to its very existence," he explained...

At least Ed Koch puts country first, I think he probably agrees with Bush on Israel as well.
Koch gives a damn about this country, which half of the other liberals don't have it within them to do. No, they hate G.W.B. and they would rather believe conservatives are the devil's minions then the terrorists chopping off heads and bringing down our buildings.
I'm standing with Koch on this one and continuing to support Leiberman.
La Guardia did that as well..
Alan Schlesinger, former mayor of Derby, CT. Here's some recent news about him:

In Connecticut, Bombshell Hits Schlesinger Campaign
The Hartford Courant sent a bunker bomb in to Connecticut Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Alan Schlesingers flagging campaign today with revelations that the former legislator was successfully sued for thousands of dollars in casino debts he ran up in Atlantic City venues. Schlesingers campaign was rocked last week by the news that, among other things, he had gambled in a Connecticut Indian casino under an assumed name, Alan Gold. His luck will have run out now.
Word of his gambling debts will renew calls for Schlesinger to abandon his tattered candidacy...
Hardly a viable GOP candidate, IMHO...

"We are witnessing the birth of a new American political party."
Sure seems that way. The time is ripe. The moonbats run the democrats and alienate more people everyday.
Expect to see lots of Koch, Rudy, and McCain in CT in the coming months.
Yes. Koch backed Bush also.
Rudy gets to be a "real NYC mayor" in a couple years.
Dinkins is an interesting case. He was exactly the wrong guy at exactly the wrong time. The city is transitioning somewhat painfully, crack hit, the budget isn't great, and he's dithering around like it's the 1960s or something.
Rudy, of course, didn't single-handedly clean up the city. He was the right guy at the right time, and made some good personnel choices.

No block of XXX theaters on times square...
What the hell kind of New York is that!?!?
No.
Ed was a great PR man, with his line, "How'm I doin?" But in reality he was a slave to the Bronx and Queens Rat machines which was his undoing. He was a complete coward in confronting crimes by minorities and was a poor administrator. He is much more effective as a PR tool, brought out of retirement when Israel and the US are in trouble. I agree with his views on the WAR, but he was never an effective leader. Giulliani on the other hand really made NY governable. The improvements under him were vast and palatable. 9-11 was simply his crowning achievement. I really believe that he stopped the City from going into total chaos.
Even in NY progress sometimes comes slowly. Koch pretty much built the foundation and Rudy presided over the building going up. For better or for worse -- since Manhattan lost a lot in the process. For instance, it's no longer within reach of the middleclass.
Much of what Rudy did in regards to crime can be credited to Bratton, Kelly et al. and wouldn't have been possible when Koch was Mayor for technological reasons.

Thank-you, as a CT state resident, for making my day. I made a prediction that Ed Koch has confirmed : Sen Leiberman will get back in via the back door if the front door is locked to him.
It is true that Mr. Koch while he was always a positive minded even though he struggled with a NYC that was an embaressment at the time that he was mayor, at least he prepared the soil for Rudy.
I just remember the blackout when Koch was mayor. He did Zero and let whole neighborhoods get looted. Can't picture that happening under Rudy. When the Rodney King verdict came down, NY's finest were ready and stopped the rioters in their tracks unlike many other places. As far as setting things up for Rudy, I don't see it. Koch set up the City for the disaster of the Dinkins Admin, which set things up for Rudy.
No Koch is a Neo-CON. And like neo-CON Lieberman just proved, people are wising up and rejecting the from the neo-CONS who fail to protect our borders and get our troops killed in a idiotic attempts to play world cop.
America is rejecting the idiots.
Oh they get it. They want the US taken down as bad as the Islamofacist do.
Both Koch and Guiliani were good mayors. Koch inherited a basket case at the start of his administration, much worse than when Guiliani took over. John Lindsay devastated the city financially, and Abe Beam did not help any. Koch had the guts to tell the city to take the cuts, but things would improve, and they did. David Dinkins undid a good portion, but not all of it. Now with Bloominidiot.......
