U.S. says any foreign firms breaking American law will be sanctioned

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 (Yonhap) -- The United States will sanction any foreign companies that break American law just as it would U.S. companies, a State Department spokesman said Tuesday in response to protests by foreign governments.

Department spokesman Sean McCormack said there are "conspiracy theorists" who claim different reasons for sanctions announced Friday against seven entities accused of transferring missile or weapons-of-mass-destruction (WMD) material to Iran.

Does anybody know what Mr. McCormack is referring as a conspiracy theory?
