FBI: Approach Missing Egyptians with Caution (UPDATE: see post # 685)

The FBI has issued an urgent nationwide alert for 11 Egyptian students who entered the United States last week but failed to show up for their courses at Montana State University.

An FBI advisory says there are, at present, no known connections to any terrorist group but that the students are to be "approached with caution" and taken into custody. They "are here illegally and wanted for questioning," the advisory says.

The advisory comes just over a month before the five-year anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks on the United States.

"This is of very serious concern and is being closely tracked," said Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

The FBI says the Egyptians arrived at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York on July 29 and disappeared. The advisory says the alert is nationwide but that there is specific concern the Egyptians may be on the Eastern Seaboard.

According to the advisory the 11 missing Egyptians are:

1. Ibrahim, El Sayed Ahmed Elsayed; DOB OF 4/29/1986.

2. El Dessouki, Eslam Ibrahim Mohamed; DOB OF 02/21/1985.

3. El Bahnasawi, Alaa Abd El Fattah Ali; DOB OF 04/02/1986.

4. Abd Alla, Mohamed Ragab Mohamed; DOB OF 02/15/1984.

5. El Laket, Ahmed Refaat Saad El Moghazi; DOB OF 09/01/1986.

6. El Ela, Ahmed Mohamed Mohamed Abou; DOB OF 02/02/1985.

7. El Moghazy, Mohamed Ibrahim Elsayed; DOB OF 08/08/1986.

8. Abdou, Ebrahim Mabrouk Moustafa; DOB OF 02/25/1984.

9. El Gafary, Moustafa Wagdy Moustafa; DOB OF 07/01/1988.

10.Maray, Mohamed Saleh Ahmed; DOB OF 09/12/1985.

11.El Shenawy, Mohamed Ibrahim Fouaad; DOB OF 08/12/1988.

Maybe these students HAVE been kidnapped. I say post their pictures on every power pole, and grocery store bulletin board in an attempt to find these poor kids who are lost in America. Let's show how compassionate we are. I'll call Greta, you call John Walsh. Okee dokee? ;)

I think it's something about an apocalypse needed in order to release their Mahdi from the well.

Somebody has photos. I'm sure the University in Egypt has photos on file with their student ID's. Their "families" will have photos.

No doubt enshrined on the wall of a madrasah somewhere...

And now that I think about it, has anyone heard if the Egyptian government is having a cow about 11 of their nationals going missing over here? Any display of concern for the safety of their young men?

A source with knowledge of the investigation said the men, who range in age from 17 to 22, may be staying in New York, visiting relatives and trying to find jobs.

Does this mean the relatives live in New York? And if they have relatives here, a little info from their families in Egypt might help track down the students.

Seems like there's a lack of cooperation on some level between the families and the US gov't.

They each paid two grand for a class they were going to blow off to look for jobs? Okaaaay. Jeez, it'll nice if that's the case, but I hope if this is true these guys aren't going to be looking for jobs in the financial sector.

I found an $1188 round trip between Cairo and JFK (even a $990), but that did not include travel to Bozeman.

Umm....

An FBI advisory says there are, at present, no known connections to any terrorist group but that the students are to be "approached with caution" and taken into custody"shot on sight by patriotic, gun carrying Americans.".

I went to the Egypt Daily News website, and didn't see anything reported there. And talk about a learning lesson! There was this huge headline near the bottom of the first page, in bold red print, that said, "WARNING"

"Graphic images depicting the reality and horror of Israel's Invasion and destruction of Lebanon supported by the USA (click to enlarge)"

All articles against Israel, the U.S., etc.
Not a word that I could find about their missing citizens. Interesting, yes?

Does this mean the relatives live in New York?

Not necessarily. I think they were just throwing out ideas and possibilities. If these students are legit, I would think Egypt would be quite cooperative and rather demanding that we find their students. If they are NOT cooperating, that speaks volumes as well.

"...help what surely must be distraught Egyptian parents find their missing sons."

I like the way you think, that's really a good idea. BTW, have the parents been contacted? I don't care how old you are, you're still mommy's baby, and I reckon these parents have either heard from their kids, or are worried about them. Unless the parents are in on it, in which case they might not be worried, but it would still be expected they'd have heard from their kids.

Get Greta and Geraldo to Cairo STAT!

I will quote Rush Limbaugh from about a week ago:

"I was a fool to believe them when they told us we are fighting a war on terror."

Yes, I'm sure they must speak some English.

This doesn't wash: If staying in New York, there'd be credit card activity at hotels and restaurants. Is it likely that all 11 have "relatives" in the US? If so, it should be pretty easy to track down these "relatives." And as you say, the job hunting numbers don't add up.

probably. The egyptian government is secularist and has a lot to fear from radical islam in general and the muslim brotherhood in particular. I suspect they do a LOT of our interrogation and other nasty type work. I also imagine they are almost afraid of their populace as we are in some ways. Democracy sounds great till you realize that people in many middle eastern countries will elect the most radical group into power, which invariably is an anti-US group.
