Jeremy Mayfield may be free to leave Evernham Motorsports for Bill Davis Racing sooner than he expected.
Bill Elliott will be in the No. 19 Dodge that Mayfield has driven for Evernham since 2002 this weekend at Watkins Glen International.

UPDATE - No Champ Provisional Allowed? NASCAR's official entry list Tuesday showed Elliott subbing for Mayfield, and the team later released a statement confirming the switch. It said Mayfield's long-term future with Evernham is undecided - but his name had been removed from the company letterhead. "This team has a great deal of potential and we just haven't met the expectations this year," car owner Ray Evernham said in a statement. "We will do whatever we need to get this car in the show for Watkins Glen. It's important to our sponsors and it's important to this team." That meant putting Elliott in the car because as a former NASCAR champion, he should have been assured a spot in the field. But in a statement released on Wednesday, Evernham Motorsports said,
""Unfortunately the timing was such that NASCAR will not provide us with the provisional."(FoxSports/Associated Press)(8-9-2006)
Please Elliott Sadler, don't go to the #19 team!

You could definitely hear the crowd cheering when Dale Jr went into the lead. Very cool.
Yea, the boy does not like it when Jr does bad. Last couple of weeks have not been good Nascar watching for him!
I think that is why he got really, really excited.
If ya get a chance, check out the track info on Jayski. Kurt Busch was hear last Tues to test the "new" track. Likes it. He estimates the track records will be broken by 2 - 3 seconds!
Sept 28 - Truck Race.
Me, the boy and 80,000+ of our very closest friends! Can't wait.
Speaking of die cast, I think (e-mail notice) the boy's black #8 car is on the way. He'll be happy.

Oh... the -28, not the +28.
Yer honor, I plead stupid.
Duh. Drinks are on Grok.
LOL. My son woulda asked "whadda shootin reloads?"
Holy cow.
The name, "Silly Season", does not do justice.
Thanks for letting me know.
I forgot to ask, so why is it that Bill E will not get the Championship provisional in the #19 car?
Wow! Let's not be forgetting almost left coast on that pass, ok?
What case?
Not so sure we can do that. I heard that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. And we won't see that bottle again!
Because Nascar decided that Evernham did not notify them in time. It was a post entry decision by RE apparently.
Oh, and Erin Crocker may run some Cup races next year. Hmmmmm, pays to be in good with the boss. :-)
