The Democrats want to prevent us from doing what is necessary and economical (that is, without government interference).
We could build power plants, find more of our own oil and natural gas, build more refineries, etc. The things they want us to do are uneconomical. Things like build 50,000 wind mills to replace one large coal or nuclear power plant. I just made that number up, but it is to make a point. Oil, coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy will be the most economical fuels for the foreseeable future since they are abundant, relatively easy to tap, and have high power density. You can generate a lot of power from these fuels in a relatively small place.
How many acres of solar panels and wind mills would we need to install to replace the 24/7 power on demand at our finger tips today? It's not a megawatt for megawatt swap. To replace 1000 MW with 1MW windmills or solar panels, you would need more since the wind doesn't blow always and the sun doesn't always shine. Replacing 1 MW with 3MW for reliability with machines that costs more per MW is bad economics.
The reason these things aren't being built en-mass is economics. It's not their time yet. If someone went out and found that we could turn dirt into power for cheaper than we make it now for little investment, someone will do it. Until then, we need to do what we know how to do.
The reason new power sources aren't being found or built with existing-cheap technology is government interference.
Let the market rule and we will be fine.

I believe that the democrats think that the oil problem is easy. I believe that they will find that it is not as easy to solve as they think. IF they make majority in November then they will have their chance and I just don't see them solving this. They seem pretty asured of themselves but results will be the deciding factor.
