US, Israel 'won't survive attack'
The Australian. ^ | August 8, 2006 | The Australian correspondents in Tehran

The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards said the United States and Israel would not survive if they attacked his nation, the IRNA news agency reported today.

"Without doubt, if the criminals (the United States and Israel) want to make any moves against Iran they will be stricken by a blow 100 times stronger and they will not survive in the face of Iran's power," General Yahya Rahim Safavi was quoted as saying.

Iran is under threat of international sanctions if it fails to comply with a United Nations Security Council resolution to suspend uranium enrichment by August 31.

Washington has also never ruled out the use of force against Iran.

Israel meanwhile yesterday accused Iran of "stoking instability in the region" after a barrage of Hezbollah rocket fire killed 15 people in northern Israel.

Israel regularly accuses Iran and Syria of backing Hezbollah and feeding the Lebanese Shiite militia's arsenal.

Tehran and Damascus reject this, saying they only offer moral support.

"So, are we, as a nation, prepared to use them?"

Very, very good question. I'd like to say 'yes, of course we are'.......but I doubt it seriously.

Who has the spine to stand up and say that we MUST use them to protect our way of life against Islamic fundamentalism? To take out a Tehran or a Damascus as a show of strength while wiping out nests of Islamic vipers? In today's world, in today's America, in today's "can't we all just get along?" b.s. environment.......I say no one with the proper authority does.

Yep, they definitely "blow".

That scenario is dependent on the party in charge. Visualize a carteresque or clintonista regime. They would incarcerate any and all in re-education work camps.

The fly in the ointment for any "coup" would be the millions of armed citizens. Many would go willingly, as it were. A sizable number wouldn't. Since the military is, by and large, a more "conservative" bunch, (as are a majority of gun owners) a Liberal coup would be doomed to failure. A Carteresque or Clintonesque group would represent a minority opinion faction and, while they'd be tolerated in an election scenario, they'd be swept away by popular and military insurgents.
