I was in the "industry" at the time & it was mini vans 1st(Caravan), then compact SUVs (S Blazer).
What wasn't anticipated was the rapid switch to 4dr. CSUVs.
FWIW, back then, the planning horizon for a new model was 4+/- years.
You weren't one of the guys who stretched the Mustang from a small sports car to a monster-SUV-sized road hog were you?
