Where They Stand: Santorum, Casey on the environment {ANWR, Offshore Drilling}

AP: Do you support drilling for oil in Alaska? Please explain your answer.

CASEY: No. Drilling in the arctic will, at most, yield only a small amount of oil at a very high environmental cost. The U.S. can't drill its way to energy independence. We need a comprehensive policy approach that makes us more energy independent, not the Bush-Santorum policy that just gives more handouts to Big Oil.

SANTORUM: I believe that we should take an approach to environmental policy that balances the needs of conservation with those of our economy. Exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is a prime example of balancing these interests. Our nation has among the most stringent environmental safeguards in the world. I have been assured that through the use of responsible drilling techniques and the application of environmental regulations, the wildlife and ecology of ANWR will be protected. Furthermore, the economic benefits that will accompany ANWR have the potential to provide our commonwealth with thousands of new manufacturing jobs and our nation with an estimated million barrels of oil produced each day. I believe that ANWR has the potential to play a significant role in reducing our dependence on foreign oil,...

AP: Do you support allowing offshore oil and gas drilling in coastal waters?

CASEY: I support the current moratoria on offshore drilling. We should focus on long-term solutions that reduce our dependence on foreign oil. The United States does not have the oil reserves to drill our way to energy independence.

SANTORUM: I believe these areas must be explored in an environmentally sound way to further increase our nation's ability to produce our own sources of energy. The Senate just took up bipartisan legislation to expand responsible exploration in the Gulf of Mexico...

Casey has his talking points directly from the DNC. He is as far left as any current senator. He will not be elected just because he claims to be pro-life (which he really isn't). When people here in Pa. start to pay attention, sometime in October, his numbers will begin to sink as will his chance to be elected. We have enough empty suits in the senate, we don't need any more.

His numbers are sinking. The latest poll results I have seen have Santorum within single digits of Casey. The only problem is that Santorum still needs to get his own positive ratings up.

"The United States does not have the oil reserves to drill our way to energy independence."

The Left repeats this mantra as if it came from G-d. It's really stupid. How do we know what reserves we have if we can't do exploratory drilling?

How is it that oil is drilled throughout Los Angeles amongst its millions of people,
but environmental damage is certain if the Alaskan wilderness is punctured?

Even a small influx of domestic oil will improve our balance of payments. This is too obvious for the moronic Democrats to comprehend!
