If we're striving for accuracy, contrails are the trails formed by condensation off of aircraft under specific conditions of altitude, velocity, temperature and humidity. Rockets, missiles and flares would put out smoke trails.
Nope, those are basically artificial clouds created by airplanes at high altitude. I guess we can just call them smoke or exhaust trails.
