They airbrush every photo and use the excuse they are "cleaning it up" but what they are really doing is sensationalizing the photo to make it seem extreme expressions or activities. No one can believe that Iraq is 90% peaceful because of the staged and/or doctored photos that come out of there. The violence in Baghdad is really confined to two neighborhoods but looking at the cooked photos it would seem to be all of Baghdad. The news shows, including Fox, plays the same videos over and over to accomplish the same exaggerations.

Same clothes, same scar on her left cheek, same mark under her right eye. Two pictures of the same woman, maybe even taken on the same day. So, what gives?

Nope, the second flag raising wasn't staged.

The battalion commander wanted a larger flag on top of Mt. Suribachi, so that it could be seen from the ships and the other end of the island. That's all.

Mr. Rosenthal happened to be there and took his famous picture. There's also a pic of the first flag raising, it just wasn't as dramatic (taken when the flag was already vertical) so it hasn't been used as much.
