A WORLD AT WAR
Meanwhile, The Turmoil Spreads
San Antonio, with a population of over 1.2 million, has become the seventh largest city in the US.
As a result it has become a much bigger target for enemy missiles and terrorist attacks. With its concentration of military bases it becomes an even more lucrative target.
North Korea's test firing of missiles capable of hitting the US mainland has been overshadowed by recent events in the Middle East.
Israel, already conducting military operations against Hamas terrorists in Gaza for the June 25 seizure of an Israeli soldier, find themselves at war with Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon.
On July 13 Hezbollah terrorists crossed the border and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others.
Israel struck back with airstrikes on key militarey targets in Lebanon, including hitting the home and headquarters of Hezbollah's leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah. Nasrallah survived the attack and vowed to wage "open war" on Israel.
Hezbollah has fired over thousand of 2,000 rockets into northern Israel and earlier struck an Israeli warship in Lebanese waters.
Israel says most of the rockets, including the one that hit the warship originated in Red China and were shipped to Iran which in turn supplied them to Syria and Hezbollah.
Hezbollah has stockpiled over 10,000 "Katyusha" type rockets with ranges of 5 to 50 miles. Larger rockets may become available capable of ranges in excess of 200 miles.
Let's face it. The Hamas, Hezbollah attacks in Gaza and out of Lebanon have been engineered by Iran with Syria's complicity. Their goal, as stated by Iran's dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is to "wipe Israel off the map."
The "Axis of Evil" Iran, Syria and North Korea with Red China's behind the scene support of their threats of open war and nuclear missile attacks cannot be ignored by the US and our allies.
So far the missiles fired by North Korea have been duds. The Taepong-2 missile with a range of over 10,000 miles barely made it off the pad before crashing in the ocean. That doesn't mean other missiles won't be successful.
Iran continues its development of nuclear weapons in open defiance of the UN and the rest of the free world.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says the nation's missile defense system is capable of shooting down any enemy missiles targeting the US.
Maybe. I'm not so sure.
Depending on the size of the nuclear warhead a single missile could easily wipe out San Antonio. What is destroyed in the blast would be contaminated with lethal doses of radioactivity.
The US warned North Korea that it would "pay a cost" if it launched missiles.
Really, what cost? They fired missiles and the US has done squat, except to issue wimpy diplomatic protests.
Prior to the missile firing, Stephen Hadley, Bush's national security adviser said, "We think diplomacy (aka appeasement) is the right answer and that is what we are pursuing."
Diplomacy isn't the answer when you're dealing with a nut case like Kim Jong-iL or a mad man like Mamoud Ahmadinejad who has been compared to Hitler.
Japan is so angered over the missile firings that it has threatened to strike North Korea's missile sites itself. It looks like Japan is shedding its peace time defense force for an offensive military.
Another "Rising Sun?" Time will tell.
The only thing terrorists, dictators and comminist thugs understand is brute military force.
In 1986 Libya's dictator Col. Qadhafi ordered missile attacks on US vessels in international waters and the planting of a terrorist bomb in West Berlin that killed a US soldier and wounded 60 others.
President Reagen ordered an airstrike, operation "El Dorado Canyon" on Qadhafi's headquarters and residence. From that time on Qadahafi was quiet as a desert mouse.
A political cartoon showed Qadhafi standing in the smoking rubble of his headquarters with a phone to his ear and the voice of Reagen saying, "I called last night. Did you get my message?"
Reagen knew how to deal with the bad guys. So does Israel.
Israel has never lost a war in its 58 years as a modern nation. In the 1967 war with Eygpt, Sryia and Jordan , destroyed enemy tanks and vehicles littered the desert for miles. Egypt lost 12,000 killed, 5500 captured (including 60 generals) and 20,000 wounded. Jordan suffered 7,000 killed and 12,000 wounded. Syria lost 2,500 killed and 5,000 wounded. Israel lost less than 800 killed.
Israel is fighting our war against terrorists on two fronts. In Gaza and Lebanon. They have Hezzbollah and Hamas on the run. Given the chance they will hunt them down and kill them.
"kill don't capture" is their modus operandi.
You won't find any "Gitmo" compounds or "Abu Ghraib" prisons in Israel.
Instead of calling for cease-fires, useless UN sanctions, worthless peace keeping forces and timetables, the US should backup Israel with superior US firepower.
Wipe out Hezbollah and Hamas and go after those nuclear weapons development sites in Iran and hit military targets in Syria.
Military targets in Iran( including their nuke sites) and Syria as well as Lebanon can be destroyed with conventional bombs and missiles. Ask the terrorist thugs in Iraq who witnessed the airstrike that wiped out Zarqawi about US missiles and bunker-busting bombs (MOABS).
Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, sounding more presidential every day, says this is WWIII. "Either we are at war or we are not. We must decide," he says.
Gingrich is right. We are in WWIII and have been even before 911. The taking of US hostages in Iran in Nov. 1979 during the Carter administration; the bombing of the Marine barracks in Beruit in 1983 by Hezbollah terrorists that killed 241 Marines; the first bombing of the World Trade Center in Feb. 1993; the suicide bombing of the USS Cole in 2002 that killed 17 crew members and attacks on US embassies around the world - all acts of war.
You can bet that Red China is a player in what's taking place in the Mideast, especially the stiuation in Lebanon. They're a bunch of communist thugs but the US and our allies are afraid to say so. We can't say bad things about Red China we can't even refer to them as "Red China" it's the "Peoples Republic of China." As though the people (peasants) have any rights or voice in the communist government.
Red China is a growing military threat to world peace.
Russian President Valdimir Putin, who has been "cozy" with Red China said,"We believe the use of force by Israel was disproportinate."
What Putin and the rest of the anti-Israel crowd fail to understand is that if you attack Israel, kill and kidnap their soldiers and fire rockets into their cities they're going to retaliate with maximum military force.
President Bush probably said it best when he told Bitish Prime Minister Tony Blair, "You see, the irony is that what what they need to do is to get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this sh*t - and it's over."
A little crude but otherwise well said Mr. President. Let's hope Syria and Iran got the message.
It may take a few well placed missiles in Syria and Iran to get the message across.
In the meantime Israel is implementing Bush's strategy on stopping Hezbollah. So far it seems to be working.
Iran and Syria have stirred up a hornets nest in Lebanon. They greatly misjudged Israel's military response to Hezbollah's kidnapping and killing of Isralei soldiers. They also misjudged the support the US has given Israel.
Israel is fighting our war on terror in Lebanon. The time has come to finish the job. No more diplomacy and UN sanctions it's time for superior US firepower with Hezballoh, Syria and Iran in the crosshairs.
Any cease-fire should only come after total victory by Israel and the US. Hezballoh, Hamas and the rest of the terrorist thugs must be wiped out.
They must not be allowed to regroup, lick their wounds and rearm.
Personally, I believe the world is getting fed up with Islamist terrorists and their "Jihad," and the butchering of innocent men, women and children around the world.
As Gen. MacArthur said, "There is no substitute for victory."
* * *
You said it, Jim!
Great. I'm going there the end of August.
Relax. The U.S. isn't Spain, and the people who fund and support terrorism know that if they hit us public opinion will demand retaliation.
One thing you can count on in the SA Media is the hunt for a possible local connection to a national story and then hyping the crap out of it.
San Antonio is just like other cities-with a higher population of GIs and Illegals.
You have the same worries here as anywhere else.
I don't think anything fired from either Lebanon or NKorea can reach San Antonio.
Of course, there are a fair number of Democrats in Austin, and they are known supporters of America's enemies.
Ha, just what I was thinking. The first two sentences deal with baseless speculation on SA as a terrorist target, then the rest of the article reads like a standard wire story about the mideast, with no more mention of SA.
