ALBANY - While Republican Gov. George E. Pataki is off on his latest national political foray, a top adviser to a potential White House rival has blasted the New York governor for becoming "a full-time presidential candidate."
"He's clearly running for president," Howard Wolfson, a key adviser to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and other New York Democrats, told the Associated Press. "You cannot run for president as the failed governor of the state," the Clinton adviser said. "He couldn't get re-elected governor, how can he possibly think he could get elected president? What record is he going to run on?"
Pataki, in a telephone interview with the AP as he worked the political circuit in New Hampshire, sought to turn the tables on Wolfson.
"I think he's got me confused with his client, Hillary Clinton, who has talked a great deal about what she would do for New York, but in six years, it's always hard for me to point to anything other than her criticism of the national administration," Pataki said.
Back home, Pataki spokesman David Catalfamo added another twist.
"One million fewer New Yorkers on welfare; the safest large state in America; a cleaner environment; and $140 billion in tax cuts - I guess if I were Hillary Clinton I wouldn't want to run against George Pataki's record either," Catalfamo said.
Flight of Young Adults Is Causing Alarm Upstate (NY)a
A pox on both their houses, 'Rat and RINO.
Howie Wolfson should be spending more timing worrrying about why Hillary has not done squat in a positive way for NYS. Given her record, he should be the last one opening his mouth about any other politican.
I can only suppose he has given up on her back-bencher perfomance and thinks he has spare time to "analyze" how others are doing.
People and business are fleeing the state.
Yeah, let's hear if for 'Rats and RINOs.
Note to the nation: Anyone thinking of voting for a pol with the letters NY after his/her name is five cans short of a six-pack.
People and jobs are leaving the state. You call that a success?
Oh just to nake it clear I would never vote for him as Preesident. There is no way he will get elected President. Out of the New Yorkers planning on running only Rudy has a fair chance of winning.
Downstate loves the guy. If Upstate had its own state, he'd've never have been elected. Hillie and Chuckie, ditto. Look at the county-by-county electoral map of NY for '00 and'04. It explains a lot.
Humor alert.
It's interesting to note that the cities with the largest number of youths leaving are mostly Democrat.
Not only five cans short of a six-pack the remaining can has been opened already.
***You cannot run for president as the failed governor of the state," the Clinton adviser said.***
But its ok to run if you are the --wife in name only-- of a failed President.
Hey that makes Hillary a WINO.
Howard Wolfson is a despicable slug....why are all the Clintonistas SLIMEY???
New York has LOUSY weather and lousy housing.....tons of people want to move just for those reasons...Pataki could be the best governor ever, and it wouldn't change those two basic things.
