Bring on dark nights. Just think how much energy would be saved? Maybe we would get more people shopping at day time and staying home in the evenings with momma and the kids.

I love seeing the sky when on vacation. They asked a famous scholar what he had learned in his lifetime. He replied, "On a clear night, you can see the stars in New York city."

I thought we could ban electricity if we embraced DST madness in Indiana. But it looks just as bright as ever. We got ripped off.

Seriously, though, I hate these "movements" to solve non problems. But my town installed these eight foot high yellow looking lights that burn sunup to sundown. Totally unnecessary, and they hurt your eyes. I like being able to see the night sky. I'm moving to the country ASAP.

Here, here....somewhat. Me? I love to grocery shop at midnight when the joints are less crowded. It bothers me to no end when I see some mouth-breathing, rednecky woman in the store at that hour WITH KIDS IN TOW. The other point is I live here in the desert and I KNOW the night sky is more beautiful with less light pollution. Stores etc are way overloighted at night anyway.

Here in Sedona, we have no streetlights, making backyard astronomy possible. This also saves the taxpayer a bundle in city electricity bills. In the big city where crime is a problem they can't get away with doing that, but shielding lamps to direct light downward would allow more efficient use of outdoor light fixtures. Amateur astronomers down in Phoenix have to travel 100 miles to get away from the city "light dome". Not good, in a state where professional astronomy is a significant sector of the economy.

all the gang members would be at home, all the teenagers and young adults would not be dating? No porch lights left on at night.

I would love to have the night skies back. New businesses in our township use downward facing lights on their buildings. I don't know if it's mandatory or not, but why waste all that energy pointing it into the sky?
