Tanks may be nearing the end of their product cycle. When I was in armor school at Fort Knox, we were taught that a tank is "a 55 ton infantryman" meaning it can be knocked out by one shot from one enemy troop with the appropriate weapon. That was in 1972, and it appears still to be true today.
Nothing is invulnerable on the battlefield...combined arms tactics make it about as safe an endeavor as it ever will be short of the automation of some armor.
