I find American double standards astounding. I remember a few years ago America stalled garment imports from India claiming they are "inflammable" (a ludicrous claim). When it comes to third rate American products which are down right harmful you have Americans screaming like hell. It is disgraceful that America should even continue to sell consumables that are downright poisonous.
Banning a single product makes a whole damn country "protectionist"? Aww gimme a break!
FYI ever damn country on this planet is "protectionist" in one way or another be it protecting their own business interests or the safety of their health.
As for there being pesticides in water, if there is really such a thing, it is still a separate issue.

1. I don't know which case you mean but flamability strandards for both U.S. manufactured or imported clothing were established when Congress enacted the Flammable Fabrics
Act of 1953 - those rules about excessive flamability aren't directed at India.
2. Coca Cola uses local water and cleans it up better than any local firm is likely to.
