The more time I spend in the blogopshere, the more it seems to me that many blogs are merely online cults.
It's an easy comparison to make. Notice, for example, that blog audiences simply do not cross over. Most people who read and contribute to Free Republic stay away from DailyKos, and vice-versa. Once in a while, some brave soul wanders over to a rival blog, as it were, and is invariably banned by the owners of that blog; more rarely, there is a full-fledged flame war in which members of rival boards virtually invade each other's territory with the goal not of exchanging viewpoints but of causing maximum damage.
Notice how this behavior is perfectly typical of what, in the real world, we call cults.
*Cult members do not leave their own cognitive and/or physical environments. Online, this means spending most, if not all, of your time in the echo chamber of blogs aligned with your point of view. This has the benefit of inoculating you from even the possibility that your position might be wrong or at least in need of more nuance.
*Cult members have no empathy for rival views or the practitioners of those views. Opponents are devils; sympathizers are angels. Orthodoxy is all-important; dissent is unthinkable.
*A cult represents organized commitment to small-picture idiocy; a gang of what Berlin called philosophical hedgehogs (those who know only one big thing about the world). Overlay this with tribal ingroup-outgroup biology and you get the inescapable conclusion that a blog, far from being a progressive community of seekers, is more often a kind of prehistoric hunting expedition determined to go after big game.

Talking about blogs, 2006 is definitely the year for this communications medium to go mainstream. But there's still plenty of unexplored opportunity on the blog frontier - - such as the emergence of video logs, or vlogs. The vlog is more powerful than the written word and, most importantly, viral. For now, Fortune 500 companies are still getting their feet wet with blogs, so you still have a chance to differentiate yourself via the vlog.
While this month's developments highlight the importance of technology in enabling and managing KM, next month will see more of an emphasis on people and practices as IDS Scheer kicks off its annual ProcessWorld in Florida. We look forward to seeing you there.

Are not!!!
Some of my best friends are liberals
How'd you break free from the chains?!? Please let me know!! I'm hungry...
Watch it! I'll stune your beeber!
Filthy DU troll...*grumble*...kitty bait...*mumble*...commie...
I will tell you, like you I get hungry and have to leave the comfort of my freeper group and go out and bring home the bacon, and sometimes while I am out there doing that, I get distracted and meander awhile.
OK - I understand "stune" - but what the h*ll is a "beeber"? I see that in here all the time, but haven't asked until now. Is it some secret password to enter the cult...uh, I mean....uh, online discussion board?
Me too.
For some unknow reason my mind read that as...lightening strikes his crotch.
I know, I was kidding. I think what he said was idiotic and anyone that would take that seriously is an idiot.
Two-penny psychology from another bedwetter educated past his intelligence. Ignore it.
I actually don't have the link to the old FR thread that started the whole beeber thing.
A newbie/troll posted some paranoid rant about INS or Border Patrol using a "beeber-like device" on people. The misspelling was so hillarious that it stuck as part of "this guy is a moron" mockery ever since. "Stuned" has a similar pedigree.
"Beeper". Someone spelled it "beeber" and it has since taken on a life of its own... just like "stuned" (stunned).
APf
A beeber is similar to a dooderbutt, but has additional settings, including "stune", ""series", "hugh", "hugely series", and "zot". They are commonly used to cheese off moose (mooses? meese?) and set people up the bomb.
I hope this clears everything up for you.
They are from the same post. See #75 for link.
When the barking moonbats on the left still chant "selected not elected" and "Bush knew" and lie about what "mission accomplished" means, it is difficult to have a debate on the issues of the day. They can't even accept the basics; too much time must be spent just establishing undeniable truths.
There is still plenty of disagreement on FR (and not just from the token trolls who are protected from ZOTs).
And it isn't a "blog".
Hate to say it, but I've met some closed minded name callers on FR, too.
