Gallup: 55% Now Back U.S. Pullout from Iraq Within a Year

NEW YORK A new Gallup poll released today revealed another upward bump in the number of Amercians who now want a complete U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq in the next 12 months.

That number now stands at 55%, with 19% supporting immediate withdrawal and another 36% wanting it done by August 2007.

"While the percentage of Americans who favor a withdrawal of all U.S. troops either now or within a year is not a supermajority, it is a majority, suggesting that the Democratic leadership is speaking to an issue that resonates with many Americans," Frank Newport, director of the Gallup Poll, writes today.

Another majority, 54%, now say that the U.S. invasion in 2003 was a "mistake."

The partisan divided remains wide on the withdrawal question, with 77% of Democrats wanting U.S. troops out in a year and only 28% of Republicans. Independents back a 12-month pullout at 56%.

Gallup polled 1,002 adult Americans at the very end of July.

"we can't possibly win in Iraq"

You attribute that to me, and you put it in quotes. Kindly point me to the post where I said it. Or anything even remotely like it.

You can't do it, because you made it up like the shameless liar you are.

You've also gone off on several delusional rants about my 'anti-Bush' comments. You haven't quoted a single one, so why don't you give me the post number of those, too.

Oh, that's right. You just made that up, as well.

Here's a tip, newbie. Making things up and then ranting about them doesn't constitute "hammering" anything.

"Name one, and the number of the post in which I took it. "

Your post Post # 66:

And about the best you've been able to do is some scenario like a battleship steaming up the Tigris for a formal surrender ceremony

Which was in reply to his post from me in my post # 31:

"Did we need you to tell us when we had won in WWI, WWII, the war of independence , civil war and other wars we have fought?"
Where's your " battleship steaming up the Tigris" in my post at?

Emphasis mine on "other wars we have fought" In which of those wars did America take surrender from some ship sailing down some river again, apart from Japan in WWII?
Has America fought AND won plenty of wars without formal surrender by the enemy? Yep.
So what was your point again?

"You attribute that to me, and you put it in quotes"

Never put that in italics.
You have implied by every post of yours that we can can't never win in Iraq.
That was paraphrasing you, that's why it was never put in italics.
That has been your position from the get go.
You are not wiggling enough.
Try again sucker.

Here's a tip Mr Kos/DU/Moveon 5th columnist, trying to wiggle out of a position you have been advocating with every post if yours with weasel words has never worked before.
Won't work now either.

Me responding to your comparison of Iraq to past wars is saying "we can't win in Iraq"? That's the best you can come up with, to stretch to justify an attribution you just made up?

Yes, I clearly expressed the opinion that we will not have a formal surrender as the end of the war. If you think we will, that says everything anyone needs to know about your juvenile opinions. And if you think that is the same as the false quote you attribute to me, then you need some remedial help with the language.

The only position I'm advocating on this thread is that you are a blathering idiot who doesn't shrink from making things up out of whole cloth.

What would have prevented this insurgency? I am not opposed to the idea that some things should have been done differently. I just don't know how this could have been avoided. There are rabid jihadists throughout the region, and they chose to fight this process. I am open to hear what ideas you have, as it sounds like you have a good understanding of the situation.

Exactly who has said there's going to be a "formal surrender" by the terrorists in this thread again?

It would not matter if Bush was the ONLY guy who wanted to be in Iraq. Bush is determined to see it through. Nevertheless, I call B.S. on this poll.

Don't bust a gut. I asked you what 'when we have won' means, and you replied that it means that same thing as it did in WWII, WWI, the Civil War, etc.

Those wars ended with a formal surrender, with the exception of WWI, which ended with a formal Armistice and a treaty that can only be described as a surrender.

Other than your comparison to those wars, you haven't given a shred of an indication of what 'when we have won' means. You simply make up allegations, accuse me - falsely and without a shred of support - of making anti-Bush posts and of claiming that we can't win in Iraq. I've done neither, but that doesn't deter you from dishonestly claiming in your juvenile rants that I have. Now you are left weakly claiming I've 'implied' it, though you can't even point to the words where I've done that.

I'm sure you are enjoying reading out of your posting playbook and calling me a DUer (never been there, BTW) and calling me an anti-Bush poster and talking trash like a fifth-grader on the basketball court, but you aren't doing anything but make yourself look juvenile and somewhat deranged.

No mention of "battleship steaming up the Tigris " there.
Fact is most wars ee have fought never had any formal surrenders on ships or otherwise.

"Fact is most wars ee have fought never had any formal surrenders on ships or otherwise."

That is nowhere near being a fact.

Just more of the same blather.

American Revolution? Check. 1812? Check. Mexican War? Check. Civil War? Check. Spanish-American War? Check. WWI? Sorta. WWII? Check. Korea? Nope. Vietnam? Nope. Desert Storm? Check.

"Fact is" that to make your claim anywhere near a 'fact,' you're gonna have to include things like Haiti as a "war."
