Malcolm X's Grandson Accused Of Punching Hole Through Window

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Malcolm X's grandson was arrested early Thursday after punching a hole in a doughnut shop's window, sending shattered glass onto two patrons, police said.

Malcolm Shabazz, 21, was picked up at about 1 a.m. in Mount Vernon, Yonkers police said. He was charged with reckless endangerment, assault and criminal mischief.

The two patrons, a 19-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, suffered cuts from the glass shards and were taken to a hospital, police said.

"They were just sitting in the place and here comes this guy from outside and he put his fist through the window," Detective Lt. Maureen Zadorozny told The Journal News of Westchester County.

One of X's daughters, Malaak Shabazz, said Thursday she was unaware of the arrest of her nephew, who was found by police sitting on a sidewalk and bleeding from his right arm.

"I didn't know anything about it," Shabazz said. "I'm kind of shocked."

It's not the first time Malcolm Shabazz has been in trouble.

He was released from prison this year after serving time for a 2002 attempted-robbery conviction in Middletown, N.Y.

He also was blamed for the death of his grandmother and X's widow, Betty Shabazz, in 1997 after he set fire to her Yonkers apartment. He was 12 at the time and was staying with her because his mother was having trouble handling him.

He pleaded guilty to the juvenile equivalents of second-degree manslaughter and second-degree arson and spent time in various juvenile centers, escaping at least twice but being recaptured.

He is the son of Qubilah Shabazz, who was 4 when she saw her father, a civil rights leader, shot to death in a Harlem ballroom in 1965.

Dont be surprised when a child that is taught hate from the day it is born turns that hate loose on the world.

Black Panthers and Farrakhan's legions are doing it every day as are the Islamics, as do some KKK and white power advocates. Teach kids to hate and this is what you get.

Teach them homosexuals are just normal people doing their own thing and fill the world with homosexuals. Young minds are easily destroyed.

Is there anything redeeming about anyone on this planet named Shabazz?

Hey, Malcolm... You wear your 'X' I'll wear mine!

I'm no fan of Malcolm X, but I never saw the point of "You Wear Your X, I'll Wear Mine" deal.

If the point is that Malcolm X is a racist or black nationalist, why compare him to the Confederate flag? If the point is that the Confederate flag isn't those things for some other group like white people or Southerners or just that it kicks ass, why compare it to Malcolm X?

As far as Betty Shabazz, I don't remember her being hateful the way Malcolm X was, although that could mostly have had to do with the way she presented herself. It sounds as though her generosity to her grandson was paid back by him killing her. It reminds me of the case of the Lionel Tate, the kid who killed the girl supposedly because he was copying pro wrestling moves. In both cases, I wondered whether the the killing had taken place by accident, and in both cases, the killers later committed other crimes.

Of course, the hatred of the Shabazz family would be most appropriately focused on Louis Farrakhan if anyone, since he basically admitted that he along with other followers of Elijah Muhammad was responsible for Malcolm X's murder.
