Reuters ^ | August 2006 | Esteban Israel

For hundreds of thousands of poor people from the Andes to the Himalayas, the legacy of Cuba's ailing communist leader Fidel Castro will be not revolutionary war but eyesight.

For decades, the now ailing Castro, who temporarily handed over power to his brother Raul on Monday, prescribed armed revolution to cure the Third World's ills. But more recently he has preferred to export doctors to treat poor people in the undeveloped world.

Yes, why not canonize him already, St. Castro. Is he writing about the same guy who once urged Kruschev to first-strike the U.S. with nuclear weapons? What Castro has actually exported for close to half a century is evil; spreading instability and misery all over the globe.

What a sack of Reuters crap. It's like Patty Murray extoling the virtues of Bin Ladens imaginary largesse of "roads, hospitals and schools". What a depraved commie this author must be.

From the link:

"I have been offered products made in places like China or Cuba, which I have refused to touch," he said.

Paging Reuters....

From this link:

Health authorities in a number of Latin American countries believe that India and Cuba use the region as a dumping ground for batches of pharmaceuticals that are substandard. For example, health authorities have discovered products without sufficient active ingredient and contaminated with foreign materials including pieces of glass. Those products can be sold to U.S. consumers in Mexico or may be smuggled into the U.S. and placed on U.S. pharmacy shelves.

Yeah, hurray for Fidel. Does anyone really think this is going on behind his back?

Castro is pushing up daisies! What is this author trying to do? Establish his "legacy"? If you want to see his true legacy watch Andy Garcia's "Lost City". Great film!

Rueters employees - raise your hand, if you'd like to have your children get free health care from a Cuban pediatrician, instead of the one you've got now.

What Castro has actually exported for close to half a century is evil; spreading instability and misery all over the globe...very good "American Experience" review of Castro's life on the NJ public channel tonight - you are so right - even Kruschev thought he was a madman after he heard that request - Castro thought of himself as leading a worldwide revolution for "the people" in places as far away as Angola - and one place we never hear about from all those soooo upset about our support of the Contras in Nicaragua, because in fact the Sandanistas were a front organization instigated, funded, and partially directsd by Castro - a few other accomplishments: the murders of thousands of opponents (public show trials and executions) right after he took over and the destruction of the Cuban economy in his obsession to produce ten million tons of sugar in one year which resulted in only eight million tons after virtually all resources on the island were dedicted to the crusade - my favorite Castro quote: "we don't want openess and reform, they are enemies of socialism"......

The press has lied about Castro since the early 1960's. They aren't like to ever assess themselves now. Just as they lied during Stalin's reign - see Walter Duranty and the Ukraine - they lied about Castro. Any American wanting just a hint about what Castro was like should read Armando Valladares's book - AGAINST ALL HOPE.
