She's on the committee to get herself a strong on defense record for future campaigns. So what if she's worthless on it. In a perfect world the best men and women would be on these committees but we don't live in one.

She wanted to be on the Armed Services Committee so she could have credentials as tough on military and national defense issues. She thinks that she has to project an Iron Lady image such as Margaret Thatcher in order to be elected as a woman president. She wants us all to think she's tough enough to be commander in chief of the armed forces. She knows she can't be elected if she appeals only to the Upper West Side and Berkeley voters.
