Just to make a long story short, you have to take into account the fact that we are not talking about an object of constant mass. It is the difference in the various masses that caused the problem. i.e., the blood and its relationship to the pilot's brain. That is not a difference of inertia, but a difference in how the two sets of mass were effected by the change in direction.
