Notice how the coffins are lined up against a wall with roman numerals (not arabic) counting the coffins. And notice how the mourners have to sit in the uncomfortably small space between the coffin & the wall, not on the other side of the coffin where it would be more natural.
The man is likely where he is because it's in the shade... I can attest to seeking the shade whenever possible, over here (Iraq, and before that Afghanistan.) I'm NOT speaking about any staged aspects of the image, just the practical one. ;0)
