Governor's Republican forgiveness finds some room on the bench [Rogan]

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, once a critic of the GOP-led impeachment of former President Bill Clinton, has nominated one of the top Clinton prosecutors to the Orange County Superior Court bench.

Former GOP Rep. Jim Rogan, who was born and raised in San Francisco's Mission District and represented Glendale (Los Angeles County) in the House for four years, splashed onto the national scene as one of the congressional managers -- i.e., prosecutors -- in the Clinton impeachment.

At the time, he called the perjury and obstruction-of-justice charges against Clinton a "slam dunk." Instead, Rogan was the one who got dunked when he lost his seat to Democrat Adam Schiff in the next election.

Rogan is now undersecretary of commerce for intellectual property and director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

What makes the Rogan appointment all the more interesting is that in 1999, Schwarzenegger told George magazine that the uproar over the Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair was a waste of time and energy and something "I will never forgive the Republican Party for. I was ashamed to call myself a Republican during that period.''

Guess that was then.

I really really like him as well, probably my favorite of the bunch.

Congratulations Mr. Rogan, you have earned it.

I'm ashamed Arnie is a Republican, too.

It will be good to have Rogan back on the bench. Met him before he went into politics when he swore a relative in after passing the bar. He's a genuine guy. He should be on the Supreme Court.

Rogan is a great person. His credentials are very impressive. I am glad to see that he is getting back into a judicial position, but I would like to see him in a much more important position.
