In my opinion the issues you raise:
1) I am personally opposed to abortion, including partial birth, but this pba affects a minuscule number of abortions and in the panoply of Presidential issues ranks extremely low;
(2) I though the assault weapons ban was not only stupid, but ineffective, but frankly, if you study the constitutional law, not unconstitutional. I am concerned about going beyond awb, but again, this issue is not huge (but more important than #1);
(3) I actually agree with this policy. Bad Behavior is what should be punished in our military justice system. I don't have a problem with gays in the military, as long as their behavior sticks to military norms;
(4) I think marriage is between a man and a woman, but I believe in states rights. I resent Judicial fiat, and therefore support the defense of marriage act, but frankly, is a state wants to allow gay marriage, that state should be allowed to do so;

These issues weight very little on the keys to Presidential Power. They may be more important to you than national defense, homeland security, fiscal sanity and free enterprise and private property rights, but not to me.

You rudy supporters cant have it both ways, first you say the president has no influence on these issues and i've shown that he does. To the social conservative base these are important issues and you can't just deflect them saying they will never come up, because they do. Rudy will sign any gun ban that goes to him, if there's a nother school shooting or something like that, dems will use it to try to pass another gun control measure and rudy will gleefully sign it. Wait till people play clips of his howard dean like speech about guns in florida.

Rudy is no fiscal conservative, i don't know why this myth is out there but everyone buys it. When he first ran for mayor he said promising not to raise taxes was political pandering.

On top of that in 1995 the city budget was 32 billion, in 2001 it was 38 billion. An 18.7% increase in spending.

Rudy left office projecting a 2.0 billion dollar deficit, and this was pre 9-11.

Under rudy, New york city had the 2nd biggest debt of any government entity in the nation(right next to the federal government). Its debt was 42 billion.

Contractual expenses doubled from 3.0 billion to 5.8 billion.

City employees went from 235,000 in 96 to 255,000 in 2001.
Rudy added 17,000 school employees and 2,000 employees to staff the city elected officials.

Rudy had very little if any sucsess in shrinking taxes, when Rudy left office New York City had the among the highest property taxes, city taxes, utiltiies among the entire nation.

So rudy is a social liberal and no fiscal conservative, why on earth would we ever nominate him? I dont know how this myth about rudy spread across the internet, everybody just assumes he's some kind of government shrinking conservative without looking into the facts.

There is a difference between rudy fans and non rudy fans. Yes, we acknowledge the WOT is important and rudy would do fine. BUT SO CAN THE OTHER CANDIDATES. Rudy is not the only candidate capable of prosecuting the war on terror. Just because the man threw hookers out of new york doesn't mean that he's more qualified than anybody else.

We conservatives will take somone whos good on the war on terror AND other issues. Why on earth would we take someone like rudy when he only has one strength? The war on terror isn't the only issue. For decades rinos told us the cold war was the only thing that mattered, and told conservatives to put their agenda on the back burner. Sorry, but we're not buying that BS this time around.
