Mel Gibson asks Jewish community for help 'healing'
Haaretz ^ | August 2, 2006 | AP

Posted on 08/02/2006 12:45:17 AM PDT by tessalu

LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson said yesterday he is not a bigot or an anti-Semite, and that he apologizes to "everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words" he used when he was arrested for drunken driving early Friday. "Hatred of any kind goes against my faith," he said in a statement released through his publicist Alan Nierob. "I Advertisement "I'm not just asking for forgiveness," Gibson said. "I would like to take it one step further and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one-on-one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing." It was the second apology the 50-year-old Oscar winner has issued through Nierob since his arrest. Gibson said he is "in the process of understanding where those vicious words came from during that drunken display," and hopes members of the Jewish community, "whom I have personally offended," will help him in his recovery efforts. "There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark," Gibson said. "But please know from my heart that I am not an anti-Semite. I am not a bigot. Hatred of any kind goes against my faith."

Surely you're not suggesting that Mel is a victim of anything, are you? 'Cuz it sure sounds like it.

Christian schisms did not arise from love

You are wrong. CHRISTians follow CHRIST and His teachings. Christ said, "The greatest commandment is LOVE'. No greater love is there but when Jesus willingly died for ALL our sins and rose again and defeated death - so we can live with HIM eternally for those that believe.

Being an evo, you don't believe this; therefore, no idea of Jesus' LOVE. The foundation of Christianity is LOVE - Jesus is LOVE.

Do you know of ANYONE that isn't a victim of something? Why do you have him on a pedestal that he is above anyone else?

I'd have a lot more respect for Mel if he were honest and admitted that he hates Jews and believes they're responsible for many ills in the World. At least then he would only be a typical anti-semite rather than a hypocritical, cowardly anti-Semite.
Now he has to go through this phony apology and rehab process.. What a pile of bullsheit..
Hating other groups (racial, religious, etc) in our societies is nothing new, it's just that it is no longer socially or legally (hate speech laws) acceptable to be overtly so.

LOL. Another post from the Professional Victim's Society.

It boggles the mind that one could suggest that Mel's experience in making and distributing "The Passion" earns him "victimhood". Just because certain groups were angry and denounced him does not make him a victim of anything.

It stretches the bounds of the word "victim" beyond credulity to suggest that anything that has happened to him in this latest situation earns him "victimhood". One does not become a victim based on one's own stupidity.

Can you enlighten me (seriously asking), what is it that has made him a victim, and what consequences has he faced as a result of his supposed victimhood?

So you DO have him on a pedestal. One can be a victim of 'their own thinking' - and I'm sure you can relate.

_______________

You're funny. You enjoy evading direct answers, it seems, but you do so in a way that elicits chuckles.

Now I'm twice confused. Of what is Mel a victim, and what the heck is this pedestal you keep referring to?

Alcohol distorts and impairs thinking, allowing unfettered emotional outbursts not controlled by rational intellectual balance...vino veritas is not accurate....Proverbs says that "wine is a mocker...".

You cannot trust that what a man says when he is drunk is the real guage of his "true hidden" feelings when sober!

Humans are complicated creatures, get any of us drunk and there is no telling what might come out of us that we'll regret when sober...

And that is the key...regret, guilt, inhibitions, moral restraints; drunkeness inhibits those active moral centers in our higher brains.

Alcohol is a neurological depressant....not a truth serum!

Jesus died on the cross for his turn the other cheek mentality. Gibson's career should, too. Then he can really know what suffering is!

I'll add you to the prayer list.

Under the category "Needs compassion".

I am also praying for him and encourage all on FR who name the name of Jesus Christ to be praying for him as well.

Amen.

You might also consider adding our bloodthirsty FRiend up at post #28.

Add to that that the arresting officer is Jewish, and you can see why he might use Jewish slurs when he was stopped by the police. I still wonder about why he's not a misogynist for calling the female officer "sugar tits".

It's like playing poker, if you're holding a hand full of anti-Semitism, that trumps all possible misogynist combinations, iow "sugar tits" always loses to "FJB" for example. ;)

Let's see how many more nails the liberals will pound on Mel.

PLENTY. And they will be Jewish AND non-Jewish. Mel is now in the floodlight, and the Christ-haters are circling their target with clubs to see who can get in the final, fatal blow.

Believe that.

Sorry, Mel. There's no such thing as "forgiveness" in the public eye.

Sure there is! You just have to be a Democrat to get it. Witness BJ and Shrillery Clinton or Marion Barry.

His timing will probably contribute to more Jewish deaths than ten of those bombs Hezbollah keeps firing

The same people who say his film was no good and he is a bad actor - give him SO much power. They will twist ANTHING to make their point. Do you know of ANYONE that changes their thinking to align themselves with a 'celebrity'? A drunk one at that!

Thanks Doc, but I have a lifetime of experience with drunks - family friends, & associates, so I'll go with personal experience vs. the nonsense of the PC crowd.

"You cannot trust that what a man says when he is drunk is the real guage of his "true hidden" feelings when sober!"

You are right, except that that statement is even more true of a sober person. By definition, "true hidden" feelings are just that - hidden - until a guy gets a snoot full, then he starts blabbering about all kinds of personal, hidden things. I've seen it too many times to count.

In any case, Mel G. is responsible for his own actions, drunk or sober. If he had killed someone in his stupor, how many would be so quick to forgive & forget.

I suspect this evil in MG will appear again, particularly if his apologies do not bring sufficient public redemption. After all, he has enough money to pretty much do or say as he pleases. Something akin to "drunk with power".
