Which would allow Israel to openly attack Syria, which would either call Iran's bluff, or bring them openly into the war.

The Syrians have a serious exposure problem - the US is deployed right behind them in Iraq.
It's interesting, I expect Israel will never have a better chance to pull this off, with Syria between a rock and a hard place.
