Its a start. The taxes on phone usage are criminal! At least 50% of my phone bill are taxes or usage fees. If I could I would cancel my phone.

I don't know about you guyz, but my BellSouth bill is about 50% "Government Mandated and Authorized Charges" and "Surcharges and Other Fees."

Precisely, and the Gore tax was for the purpose of wiring schools.
Recall how Al went media by showing up with working gloves in a school and then started pulling on some wires.

You can, have you looked at Prepaid Cellular? My wife pays $8.33 per month for 24 to 83 minutes of air time with Cingular (No Tax). I pay $5.99/month plus 0.10/minute with Sprint/Nextel (Approx. $2.00/mo. tax).

Skype works great, too if you have a cable modem.

Don't plan on using this windfall for any major acquisitions quite yet. The FCC has already stated that they need to find other means to maintain their cash flow.

I'd cancel if I could, too. $50 phone bill and only $8 was long distance charges. The rest of the bill was for taxes and fees.

No, it's real. They probably made sure that it got the H.R. 1898 number to make a point (just like John Dingell makes sure that the health-care bill he introduces every year is H.R. 15 to match his congressional district number (before 2003 it was H.R. 16).
