GREEN TREE, Pa. (AP) With less than 100 days remaining in his re-election campaign and trailing in the polls, U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum painted his Democratic opponent as running solely on name recognition.
"When you elected Rick Santorum, you didn't elect someone who came from a proud political legacy. You didn't elect someone who had a great name in Pennsylvania politics," he said, referring to his opponent, state Treasurer Bob Casey, whose late father was Pennsylvania's governor from 1987 to 1995.
"You elected someone with great heart and great passion to fight for things you care (about)," Santorum told about 70 supporters Monday at a rally on the outskirts of Pittsburgh...
Santorum, the No. 3 Senate Republican, lives in Leesburg, Va., but also owns a house in suburban Pittsburgh. He is embroiled in a tough re-election battle with Casey. Although Santorum's campaign has twice as much money as Casey's, the Republican has trailed Casey in polls for months...
The Santorum rally was also attended by Washington County commissioner Diana Irey, a Republican challenging John Murtha, a 16-term Democrat... who has become the face of the movement opposing the Iraq War.

Help Diana Irey retire and redeploy Jack Murtha this November!
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Members of the group that targeted presidential candidate John Kerry are setting their sights on U.S. Rep John Murtha.
The group, Veterans for Truth, is reformed from the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth and will hold a rally in October to "Redeploy John Murtha From Congress," according to Mark Parker, state chairman.
Murtha, a retired Marine colonel, has been an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq.
Diana Irey, a Washington County commissioner, who has been critical of Murtha's comments about the war, is running against him.
Murtha defended his support of the troops. He said his opposition is a policy difference and everybody has the right to an opinion.
Members of the group will be in Johnstown on Thursday to detail plans for the rally.

BTTT
Rick Santorum is the only person I am supporting financially this election cycle.
He is my ideal of a good politician, not haughty but humble in his solid support of good American ideals.
I already have yard signs on my front yard, and I plan to canvass my neighborhood in support of Rick.
Good stuff! Thanks so much for getting involved. But maybe think about throwing a couple of bucks Diana Irey's way. ;-)
What part of a policy difference is his opinion that the Haditha Marines are "cold blooded killers."
That lack of support for our military people who are risking their lives on a daily basis in foreign lands is going to send him packing in November.
That's right. In this great country even idiots have the right to an opinion and free speech. It's pretty telling when a United States Congressman's opinion is the same as that of our enemies! An opinion that accuses our troops of cold-blooded murder, who says we can't win, who says we must "Cut and Run." Yes, Mr. Murtha, you do have a right to an opinion...and I have a right to mine!
You are an embarrassment to this country and you don't even deserve the title of ex- Marine! What you have attempted to do to our troops is indefensible.
"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged."(Abraham Lincoln)
Pennsylvania is not really a conservative state. If Santorum wins it will be with the power of incumbency, and by the skin of his teeth.

He has a right to his opinion and I have the right to vote to throw him out. Which I'm going to do in November. I heard an interview with Diana Irey on a local t.v. talk show. She does very well. She stays on message, sounds intelligent, and is very appealing. Murtha, on the other hand, sounds like he's either gone senile or has flipped out. Irey could easily defeat him in a debate.
Way to go! I wish I could have the pleasure of voting him out.
AMEN!!! Now let's pretty up the great quote, shall we?
"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged."
(Abraham Lincoln)
Rick is a strong supporter of Diana Irey and vice versa. They would make a great team in Congress. Please consider supporting Mrs. Irey as well as Rick.
You say this from Texas? Are you from Pennsylvania? How long ago did you move?
"What a piss-poor comment from a congressman! Thats it? Thats all Murtha can come up with after all this backlash?"
LOL! Remember, this:
"He said his opposition is a policy difference and everybody has the right to an opinion."
is solely intended for "local" consumption. Heck, he's obviously still in shock that he had to tell us dumb yokels anything at all. We weren't ever supposed to "know" what he was saying and doing "outside" the district. ;)
