Charlie Crist Let My Daughter Die

by Robert Schindler, Sr. Posted Jul 31, 2006

As most Americans know, on March 31, 2005, my daughter, Terri Schindler Schiavo died of starvation and thirst after having her feeding tube removed by court order. The sad chain of events that concluded with Terri’s death ignited a media firestorm nationally and internationally. What few saw or heard was the callous inaction of aspiring governor Charlie Crist.

Florida Atty. Gen. Charlie Crist let my daughter die. He had it within his authority to save her life, but he turned a blind eye to her suffering. Even worse, he worked to ensure her death.

Terri lived in a neurologically compromised state for reasons that are still unknown, and my family wanted nothing more than permission to care for Terri for the span of her natural life. We were denied.

My daughter tenaciously fought for her life for more than 13 days after being deprived of the most basic, natural and constant need that we all share—the need for nourishment—food and water. Terri was not on a respirator, nor terminally ill. She was not dying, nor succumbing to a dreadful disease. She was disabled. She was dependent on others, but still very much a life, a woman, and a person.

Over the course of several years, our family, our lawyers, and our friends pleaded for help from local, county, and state police and regulatory agencies with constitutional and statutory authority to investigate the many sworn statements of extreme abuse and neglect suffered by our daughter.

Hoping to save my daughter’s life, our family sought the help of Attorney General Charlie Crist. Not only did Charlie Crist refuse our family lawful access to the assets of his office, but he violated his oath of office by actively cooperated with those in positions of political and judicial authority whom denied us legal access to the police and regulatory systems meant to protect the weak. Multiple sworn agents from responsible police and regulatory agencies who found probable cause to investigate allegations of abuse in Terri's judicial and physical care, were ordered to shut down those probes. This heavy-handedness made us powerless.

Information of direct interest to Attorney General Charlie Crist's office was directly delivered to his personal hands, and he refused to properly execute the duties of his office. And it was with deliberate decision that he failed to attend a scheduled Tallahassee meeting with our family. On another occasion, we approached each other by chance. Upon recognizing me, Charlie Crist abruptly stopped and walked away.

That callous action encapsulates Charlie Crist. He walked away from a man whose daughter’s fate he controlled. At that moment, he turned his back on Terri. And he turned his back on the most fundamental duties of his office.

It is quite clear that Charlie Crist, to this day, has demonstrated no public affection for the cause of life, or Christianity, or any set of core values. He has been posturing to become governor for decades. With each voting audience he has crafted a message based on the expediency of the moment.

To add insult to injury, at a recent banquet, our alleged pro-life candidate for the Governor of Florida said the following about Judge George Greer and other judges involved in the death of my daughter, "You are heroes to all of us, and your defense of the judiciary and what is right is beyond admirable."

Through his actions, Charlie Crist has demonstrated that he has no regard for our most vulnerable citizens, the high duties of public office, or life itself. Charlie Crist’s celebration of the merciless judges who condemned Terri to death speaks to his true character.

Ironically I just now posted on another thread reminding of the teams at Pinellas Park and SWAT guarding their killing process and the weapons were trained on us peaceful supporters of Terri and protecting her "right" to be killed safely.

My mind boggles. So many images race through my mind of this "victim" thrashing about it is overload.

>> Futile-care law puts life of patient in others' hands

Yes, and isn't that what all the finest bioethicists and ghouls screamed about in Mikey's case? Everybody butt out! Congress butt out! It's a private family decision! It's Terri's own decision to die! -- even if the only evidence was three people named Schiavo reading the entrails of a chicken. So this time the bioethicists are arguing that the patient has to die even when it's against the family's wishes and the patient's right to privacy.

Seems like any excuse to kill the patient will do.

It is a strange gift of the liberals and far left to be able to use the same argument for opposite purposes. They can use it any way it works, meanings irrelevant, an uncanny ability to manipulate their own minds as they manipulate truths.

Yet they are blind to the irony, to the stupidity of their own reversals.

How about this bit of fantasy? Police arrest and handcuff a small boy for trying to take a glass of water to Cindy Sheehan.

That's another one of my maxims -- "Liberals are always wrong, even when they come down on both sides of the issue."

It never fails :-)

I remember. I was there. And I was so irked by the duplicity of law enforcement.

>> It is a strange gift of the liberals and far left to be able to use the same argument for opposite purposes.

They have no core belief left to set their compass and inform their actions. Thus they see no irony -- and know no shame -- when they reverse themselves. It's like the old Communist Party line. On August 22, 1939, the Nazis and Soviets loathed each other. Hatred was the party-line duty on both sides. Then, shockingly, on August 23, 1939, the Molotov-Von Ribbentrop nonaggression pact was signed. Overnight, Hitler and Stalin became bosom pals. The Nazi and Commie faithful were required to instantly accept this 180-degree reveral of belief and policy -- and most did!

Only one week later, Nazi Germany and then Communist Russia launched attacks on little Poland from both sides, starting World War II.

No word on Haleigh Poutre for almost a week. She was denied a visit from her mother on Aug 1. So the last time she saw her was two weeks before that. It's been almost a month since Haleigh's been allowed to see her mother. Has anyone else who cares about Haleigh been allowed to see her during that time? Is the court order allowing DSS to kill her still in effect? The lawyer for DSS said they'd wait at least a year before trying again to kill her. The year isn't up yet. I think she has until January, if they keep their word. I don't trust them to keep their word. Especially since they've isolated her, and there seems to be a media blackout.

Does anyone have any news on Haleigh? Contact info? We need to let DSS know that they can't silently dispose of her.

Why can't you remember history the way you're told to remember it. Europa is our friend. Europa has always been our friend.

Check our last thread for a contact with Haleigh's mother's attorney, Wendy Murphy. It will take some digging but there is a lead. Greater Boston area, I think. Freepmail me if you find it, please?

I remember that song :-)

Won't you take this advice I hand you like Big Brother?
Or are you too incorrect to hear;
Are you covering up your rear;
Is it all going in one ear and out the other?

I visited my mother's first cousin in a nursing home today. Her name is Hessie and she has never uttered one murmur or complaint in her life to my knowledge. Her mother died when she was no more than ten years old, her brother was killed at a pretty young age in a tragic accident while driving across a railroad track, her daughter died in her fifties of stomach cancer, her sister recently passed away (going on 100 yrs. old). Never a complaint against God, never a bitter word, just a quiet acceptance of the will of God and TRUST. Hessie is 93 yrs. old, lying in a bed in a nursing home and on oxygen. She has paid her dues, raised a family, worked and been a keeper at home, a quiet unassuming, loving person - which she STILL is. We had a good visit, though brief this morning. Then I sat in her room beside her bed for about an hour and just rested and she slept. I see many fanatics and self-important academics regularly who aren't worth her little finger. I am not worthy to latch her sandals. She will live until the Lord calls her home, take up a little bit of space, enjoy her simple bit of food and drink, and keep on fooling the doctors who have written her off numerous times in the past five years.

That is a lovely, inspiring story. God bless Aunt Hessie! And thank you, not only for sharing this with us, but for keeping faith with the old and wise stricture to honor our elders.

Thanks. I e-mailed her a few days ago. I'd also like to contact DSS, and any politicians that might be able to help (or hurt) Haleigh. This media blackout is unnerving.

You just described two of my aunts who both recently passed away. I was fortunate to spend some with one of them in her final days. She was a comfort to be around.

Why is it that every time I hear about the politics in Florida, I choke on my Florida orange juice and spit up DemonRATs? I discourage anyone thinking of retiring in Florida, to avoid that state for your life.

I hope Rush Limbaugh, during his vacation, is looking for a more hospitable place to live.

BB, Contact Governor Mitt Romney's office because he vowed to protect Haleigh Poutre and I believe the man meant it.
