One of the more interesting things about the methods shown, somewhat inaccurately from a historical perspective, in The Patriot as being used by the British to suppress insurgents in America are exactly the same ruthless tactics proposed by some here on FR as appropriate to be used against Iraqi insurgents.

Most of these folks would consider these tactics monstrous when used by the Brits against American insurgents or by the Union against Confederates, but just fine when used by Americans against Iraqis (or Vietnamese, or really against anybody fighting us).

They thus show that they do not object to the tactics as such, only to their use against their own side. I believe this is commonly known as hypocrisy.

"Insurgents"? I call them TERRORISTS. People who pretend they are distributing candy to children and then blow them up are TERRORISTS. The word "insurgents" gives them a dignity which they do not deserve.
