Actually, Christopher Hitchens is one of the few liberals who does support the War on Terror and Israel. He's been a much more eloquent defender of Bush's policies than many traditional "neocons."
As for Gibson, I believe that it's a free country and one has a right to one's opinions, but he clearly deserves to be shunned and lose opportunities in Hollywood. (I don't think that Gibson should be directing a movie about the Holocaust after that li'l outburst???) I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt; however, it seems that he really is very anti-Semetic.
Also, I really don't mind Hitchens' comments about Opus Dei. That sect does come off very creepy and cult-like and have always weirded me out.

I am well aware of his support for the WOT, but I'm also well aware of his incessant Israel-bashing, and can't fathom how anyone familiar with his writing could say he supports Israel.

I don't think I mentioned Opus Dei, but I suspect his thoughts on that group reflect my own.
