The best thing for me to do politically is stay away from the Big Dig - just get as far away from that tar baby as I possibly can.
What offends me more is how he states that it would be better for him to stay away from the Big Dig.
Its his JOB to deal with it!
He actually followed that quote with the following:
"But I got elected as governor of Massachusetts. It's part of my job to do what I think is the right thing."
He was essentially saying that, although from a politically expedient standpoint, he should avoid getting involved, in this case it was his very job to get involved. Of course, we can't expect the media to give his comments perspective. It is their job instead to fan the flames with journalistically expedient snippets. Sheesh.

Did you read the article? Have you been following the Boston news? Romney's pulled a strong takeover of the Big Dig and has been leading effectively!
Regarding the comment, I was the audience member that asked him the question in Ames about Dick Morris saying it was a bad political move for Romney to take over the big dig. Romney's tar baby response recognized the political danger of taking it over, but prefaced his remark immediately thereafter:

``But I got elected as governor of Massachusetts. It's part of my job to do what I think is the right thing."
He cast himself as willing to tackle a seemingly intractable problem. ``One thing's for sure, I am sure tired of people who just have nothing but talk and are not willing to take action. I'm willing to take action, and that's what I'm going to do," he said to rousing applause.
At least read more than the title of an article/quote before jumping in and looking uninformed.
