If a leftist had said this, freepers would never forget.
Forever after, every time that person's name would come up, it would be with a mention of this disgusting incident.
When we mention Biden we mention his hairplugs and plagarism. When we mention Ted Kennedy, it's always the swimmer and references to Mary Jo.
But since freepers were tricked into thinking that Mel Gibson was actually a conservative because he made a religious movie, he's their new icon and can do no wrong.
And in the interim, we're seeing a lot of anti-semitism and quite a few freepers who've outed themselves much the way that Mel Gibson outed himself.
Uh, Mel Gibson is a celebrity. He really isn't that important.
You said it perfectly.
You said it perfectly.
He's not my icon,no actor/entertainer is that. Because they can act or sing,I should think that they hold the knowledge of the universe,or even any political savvy?
I agree so much with your articulate post. At the very best, Gibson is one arrogant, rageful man. With alcohol he is also dangerous. I feel sorry for his children.
Well said Peach. Anyway, I really didn't buy Mel's apology. His own words left no doubt that the main thing on his mind the whole time he was being booked was trying to save his image. His apology/statement sounded too much like one of those scripted statements from a PR guy, like the ones athletes read after they get caught.
Peach, I hope you're not warmin' up the antisemitic rubber stamp. It takes more than a boozed up paranoid tirade to make an antisemite.
I think you are giving FReepers less credit than due, Israel and Jews are not held immune from criticism on penalty of being antisemitic.
If you're seeing a lot of antisemitism lately you can't be looking in the direction that Gibson is coming from.
I've learned a bunch of not so nice things about some of my fellow Freepers.
The ones who complained about the "PC society" where Mel (and they) can't freely spout their Jew-hatred are especially revealing.
I will remember their names.
That said, I still PotC is one of the most moving films ever made- and not anti-Jew. Makes me wonder what the unedited version would have been like though.
