Do you remember this photo? Probably not, the Israeli media did not make a soap opera out of it.

I'm an American, not an Israeli, so there's no way I can critisize how the Israeli's choose to respond to such atrocities. My own impulse is to say that maybe part of Israel's public relations problem -- and everyone from the Israeli Prime Minister to Ollie North this morning on Fox News acknowledges that problem -- is that they don't, as you put it, "make a soap opera out of it."

If it were up to me, I would publish as many horrifying photos of dead Israelis, particularly children, as I could find so that people around the world could see the horror and suffering. I would bluntly and unflinchingly show the world what bombs loaded with nails and ball bearings and rat poison does to a human body, particularly the bodies of small children. I wouldn't hide the effects or sweep them quickly from the scene and then just go on with my life.

But then again, I'm not an Israeli, so I don't know Israeli custom and proclivities in such matters. And before you leap to an incorrect conclusion, Alouette, I think EXACTLY the same way about American dead slaughtered by the Islamofacists monsters. I have searched (in vain, unfortunately) for photos of the bodies of people who jumped from the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. Here on FR, I once posted a thread of the most graphic photos of 9/11/01 as I could find -- not to "make a soap opera out of it," but because I firmly believe we need to know the brutal truth, not some sanitized version of it.

I know many people do not share my opinion, and I respect their point of view. I don't insult them because their point of view is different from my own (or at least I don't unless they give me other reasons to do so).

In any war, there are people who want to sanitize the truth and those who want to reveal it in all it's ugliness. During WWII, many people outside Germany knew of the death camps. Ship loads of Jewish people were turned away from sanctuary in the United States. Most of those ships returned to Germany, where the people were taken to the death camps. Roosevelt, Churchill, and many others averted their eyes from what was happening in the death camps.

Today, there are many who deny the Holocost ever happened. With the slogan "never again,"Israel was born out of the horrors of Nazi Germany. So, sorry, but I don't understand the impulse to "not make a soap opera out of it," which I interpret as sanitizing the truth.

As for the children of Qaran, they are Lebanese and they are victims of the Hezbollah wing of radical Islamofacism. I want people to see the unvarnished truth that results from Islamofacist hate, because only then might we finally break out of our stupor and wipe it out once and for all.
