Before my son left for Ft Dix awaiting to be mobilized to Iraq..I had this conversation with my son....I asked him if he would be able to shoot and kill a child that was coming at him as a suicide bomber....he hesitated...and I said that you were now dead as well as everyone around you.......a conversation that I would like to forget......
I know it was hard for you to say that to him, but it's a good thing you did. That let him know if he had to kill a child that you would understand, and in fact, wanted him to do what he had to do to save himself and those around him. Don't beat yourself up over it. I would have said the same thing if I had a son going to Iraq. Tell your son that I appreciate what he is doing to protect me, and my family, and I thank him from the bottom of my heart. I will pray for him daily, as I pray for our service men and women who are in Iraq and Afghanistan.
