"all this crap about how the poor civilians couldn't get out - I heard stories all the time when I lived in Germany of 17 year old girls getting in a wagon with one horse and no food and no warm clothes in the middle of winter and fleeing the Russian advance as bombs dropped around them. They wanted to survive."

Greg Palkot said in his last report that HE had no trouble getting there and getting back to Tyre....he said the roads were FINE. And if the civilians didn't have any cars they certainly could've walked. Palkot also said earlier today that Qafa was only 8 or 9 miles from Tyre. If you're afraid for your life you can walk that far no problem.

I need to have the vcr running this morning. I thought a few hours ago that Greg said it took him a long time to get there, but just now it's the opposite. From Google Earth is looks about twice that distance and that's as the crow flies. Google needs to get better maps of places of interest.

You got the right. I have spoken with Iraqi Chaldeans and how they escaped out of Iraq

Also with Eastern Europeans and how they escaped during the cold war.

I have a sense what they were up against as I was in East Germany in several cities in 1983.
