The following is the complete text of Mel Gibsons statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said and I apologize to anyone who I have offended.
Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health.
Been there myself.
I hear ya.
He needs to go on Oprah and apologize in front of the studio audience.
As have I. Didn't give the cop any heat though. Did that when I was just a pup. Really Bad Idea. Gibson handled himself in the aftermath like the decent guy he is.
Classy statement. He took total responsibility for the incident.
And I do believe that he doesn't really believe everything he said. I've known alcoholics, and they are capable of saying anything while under the influence.
I would like to see Gibson sue the tavern that sold him all that alcohol. They are the ones at fault, not Mel Gibson!
Mel's a big boy. It wasn't the bar's fault.
Good for him, he didn't rty to shift blame or weasel out on anything. He admitted his mistake and apologized. I hope he can get control of his alcoholism.
Might be a good idea to throw a few bucks towards some county sheriff's charities too...a show of goodwill and all...
Which of Hillary's statements are you referring to? The one about Gandhi running the gas station?
Has he joined Hizbollah?
Now announce you are donating some millions of your $$ to the IDF to help them defat the Hezboz!
I think this statement shows that Mel has a lot of class. Many Hollywood stars and Washington D.C. politicians would have tried to deflect the blame, and deny any personal responsibility.
No, her characterization of someone as, you'll excuse me, "A f------g Jew b-----d."
Mel's Dad is reportedly a bit, shall we say, eccentric in his own views. Unfortunately for Mel, it sounds like an inherited condition.
Er, I think that was sarcasm.
