Just yesterday I was trying to explain to an exasperated conservative friend that there is no point in arguing with them. I used to believe that facts would quickly and easily win arguments. What I've learned is that liberals dismiss even the most solid and compelling facts (EX. Joe Wilson is a liar) by dismissing the source as connected to some bizarre conspiracy.
You're right. They don't want to hear it. I am on a healthcare email list and one of the sublists is 'Politics'. I am DUMBFOUNDED that otherwise intelligent people think Bush is the monster and wired the WTC for controlled demolition while Saddam buried hundreds of thousands with nary a word mentioned of this atrocity. These people are frigging NUTZ!

When you accept the fact that their political viewpoint is their religion, then you can accept the fact that arguing is useless. However, pointing out that they "believe" their truths without facts BECAUSE it is their religion, is a satisfactory way to end a discussion. That and laughing at them (unless you are talking to a friend or a relative or someone with whom you have to keep a continuing relationship.
