Ethnic purity can carry anyone only so far, until total isolation sets in, and once cut loose from the constraints of what anyone else in the world thinks or says, you may ride off on that flying carpet, to "cuckoo-cloud-land". In that rarified atmosphere, the loss of oxygen tends to make one inattentive and unable to exercise ready judgment.
Perhaps that has happened to the Iranian leaders already.
