Look at the Northern Rocky Mountains States and High Great Plains region of the USA/Canada, we have the most abundant domestic natural gas, coal bed gas, coal, oil-shale and nuclear resources. It is so vast that it could supply America's energy needs for at least 300-500 years. It is worth around 100 trillion dollars and going up. Build a few nuclear power plants to help convert the oil-shale/sand to useful oil and we don't have to go foreign nations for our energy needs.

Good plan!
Nuclear, and domestic energy is way to go for energy independence and CO2 reduction.

I believe we must increase domestic supplies of energy, including allowing for exploration and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- I believe we should reduce the regulatory red tape that has effectively shut down the growth of one of the cleanest, safest, most affordable sources of energy we have - nuclear power.
GO DIANA GO!!!

"but we haven't built a new nuclear power plant in America in a generation"
As a nuke, tell me about it! I suggest no one go into this industry. When the geniuses in DC (all 535 of them) get a hair up their ass you can be left standing out in the cold and nowhere to go. Best bet is not to get involved with anything , like the nuclear industry, that is too closely involved with the government.
Anyhow, the plans are to hire foreign (inexpensive) engineers to build them and run them. Matter of fact, the plan is to have large parts of them built over seas and floated over here.
So if anyone is thinking about making this a career, you might best look elsewhere.

Hello Justa, I'm envious as heck. I saw where you and the rest of the FReepers at Walter Reed had the priviledge of Mrs. Irey joining you this evening.
That is fantastic she was there and hope she enjoyed it.

She certainly did enjoy her time there at Walter Reed.
I can also tell you that the TROOPS enjoyed the time they spent with HER!!!
Will give you the "rest of the story" tomorrow, as I am exhausted. ;*)

Well shucks, just when I thought nuclear power plants could make a comeback, you pop up.
So, what's your answer? Little squirrels on treadmills? :-)

First, look at blacklightpower.com and cheniere.org for non-polluting, non-nuclear energy sources; they've been around for YEARS but the guy behind the curtain(big oil/vested interests)has fought their development all the way. Then there's LENR, another possible energy source + clean up nuc-rad-waste quickly and cheaply. Instead the glassification project at hanford has ballooned from $4B(2000)to $11.55B now(2006), call it the good-old-boy Yucca Mountain cabal.....Personal experience : MHD(MagnetoHydroDynamics)has been tried with coal plasma but the coal slag quickly coats the throat walls, gumming it up. Pondering the problem on waikiki beach 5 years ago : possible solution : slide 4 film-belts thru on the throat walls like camera film, as endless loops. Then clean off(sand blast or scrape)the coal slag on the outside and recoat with gel or sprayed on copper metal in a continuous process. The films also remove some heat off the cryogenically cooled, superconducting EM walls......Gave the idea to my Sen Conrad Burns to forward it to the DOE, which he did. The DOE gave me the finger.....So much for "energy independence". Finally you LEARN : VESTED INTERESTS. All this talk about "energy independence" is one big fat LIE, VESTED INTERESTS want to keep those BIG BUCKS rolling in = KILL any new idea to improve the situation asap. My 3000+ collegues in the new energy field have learned this lesson all too well....

I saw her last night at the Walter Reed Free Republic demonstration. She has real potential to win against Murtha. She is impressive and talked with every single person there, a real down to earth type of person, magnetism, poise, obviously intelligent.
