Hanford is a very large facility that abuts the Columbia River basin in Eastern Washington. Easily found on a map, near the "Tri Cities" of Richland, Pasco, and Kennewick.
It's the home of at least two active reactors (one for defense, one for civilian electricity), and, because of its Cold War history, is currently a SuperFund cleanup site. It gained that designation from fears of radioactivity reaching the Columbia River watershed.
