Bush & Blair news conference 12:30ET
Blair will do a much better job of responding, but the message will be the same.
Thanks for the ping..just back from grocery store.
Have to catch up.
He is eloquent.
Ya know .. it's pretty sad that Blair and Bush have to give the media/press a history lesson on what's been going on
Quote from other poster "
no they aren't. follow the news, israel is the one who, so far, had decided not to go "all in" in this one. they have conducted the ground operations with only 2 brigades, making only minor incursions into lebanon.
its just the opposite - Bush gave them every chance, stood alone to back them 100% - if they decide not to pursue, its on israel, not the US."
UMMMMMMMMM Why don't you give Israel some time before YOU decide what they have and have not done. This war JUST started. You have no idea what Israel might do tomorrow or the next. To say that Bush gave them every opportunity? It is none of our business. LET ISRAEL fight and win this war for gods sake. Quit taking up for a policy that is going to help FAIL Israel and their chances to win.
Some people will support Bush and Blair through the most insane reasoning.
I do not support stopping Israel from WINNING this war.
I back Bush on most things but NOT this.
It's kind of embarrassing that Blair has to explain this to Gregory as if Gregory is 9 years old.
Blair: I don't this it has anything to do with loss of American influence at all. We have to ask what changed policy because it's changed in the last few years nad what changed policy was 9/11. Before 9/11, this global ideology was already in being and 9/11 was the culmination of what they wanted to do.
Actually, this is where policy makers were truly in error, myself included, this was happening on a smaller scale across the world. The movement has grown and it will latch onto any cause it can and give it a dimension of hatred. In Kashmir for example. Palestine. What is it's purpose? It's purpose is to promote its ideology and use any methods at all, but particularly terrorism, to do that
The value of terrorism is not just the act of terror but the reactions to it. Brings reprisals and brings hatred and so on.
ANd in a small way, we lived through that in N. Ireland for many decades.
After 9/11, this explains the policy of the president and my view and why we need to remain strong allies, is we will never succeed unless we understand. They are going to fight hard. The reason they're doing what they're doing in Iraq is because if in the center of the ME in an Muslim country you have a non-sectarian democracy, a genuine democracy, how does their idelogy flourish in that circumstance. So they've moved into that country.
It's why the Taliban is trying to come back into Afghanistan.
(INCREDIBLY ARTICULATE ANSWER BY TONY BLAIR!)
Maybe we should send the press copies of "Obsession" when it comes out.
C'mon, tell us how you REALLY feel about Gregory! lol
Just kidding... I completely agree.
I agree with you...and the longer this presser goes on, the more I am convinced...
Did he really? Excellent! Doesn't he usually call him "Stretch"?
Blair is doing a brilliant job. He knows how to place it in context.
Unfortunately, Chrissy Matthews will find a way to spin Gregory's performance into Gregory getting the better of Bush...blech
Blair: If there's a mistake made in these circumstances, it's that we're surprised it's tough to fight. I don't dispute the implication of your question in that you look at what's happening Palelstine and Iraq, etc., and there's shock and frustration and grief. But it's not a reason to walk away. IT's a reason to stay the course no matter how tough it is becuase the alternate lets the ideology grip larger and larger numbers of people.
We have a problem with our Muslim communities in Europe. They half buy the idelogy. We have to stop apologizing for our own positions.
Muslims are free to worship in Europe. It's nonsense. We have to have confidence in our position. The ideology is wrong in every wretched way but there's no altenative but to stay the course.
And Hezbollah's infiltration into the Lebanese army, which will now magically oust Hezbollah from South Lebanon with the aid of a "multinational force" blessed by the mighty UN.
I wish I could see Gregory's face right now since Blair just sat him in the corner.
I LOVE THIS from Blair: "We have GOT to stop apologizing ..."
Sad, but unfortunately not at all surprising. The MSM are all scum.
