Despite the clear economic case against a higher federal minimum wage, "moderates" in Congress are continuing the push the issue. Fortunately, House conservatives are not going along with this misguided effort, and members of the Republican Study Committee circulated this letter on Capitol Hill yesterday.

Thank you.
You can supersize that slurpee for another 35 cents.
In my opinion, people can legitimately hold differing views on social issues; I am relatively conservative, but I have no way of proving that I am right, and others are free to disagree.
On economic issues, though, the liberal position simply ignores economic reality, and is based in ignorance. Very rarely can a reasonable argument be given for a liberal economic position; those advocating such positions rely almost universally on emotion and "tear-jerking" stories.
Please prove me wrong and give a rational argument for your position on the minimum wage.
"Makes me a realist. Do you think really for one minute that congress can keep not raising the minimum wage, and that when they do it will be a big one. This is slow and gradual, read not much impact. And keep in mind this is a tight election years."
Here's a question for you.
In a FREE Country, which we profess to be.
What earthly business is it of Congress, or any State for that matter, what the hell the minimum wage is that an Employer of a Private Business, pays to an Employee that HE or SHE hires hmm?
Answer?
NONE!
Congress has every right to raise the minimum wage of a Government Employee.
It has ZERO right to raise any wage in the private sector.
But then the people in this country have listened to the lies of this government for so long that it now believes IT to be the Sovereign Power in this country and not the People as the 10th Amendment to the Constitution states.
It would also have the effect of pushing prices up.
Prices are have have been going up.
And you want to compound the problem.
See the link on post 128.
Saw it.
How many people would get a payraise as a result of an increase in the minimum wage?
How many of those people are only making minimum wage?
Please reveal your thought process so that we may all be as 'enlightened' as you.
It would have the effect of driving wages up, think trickle down in reverse. Besides it is most likely a done deal. The senate republicans have just announced that they are tieing wage increases to tax cuts and the dems are tieing them to congressional pay raises.
If only we could sneak in ANWAR drilling into this.
Foolish in the extreme to put spending on auto pilot. I want to see a politician's name attached to EVER spending increase.
And now you advocate political cowardice and expediency?
Do basic economic principles get repealed during election years?
You want to see low wage employment skyrocket? Eliminate the minimum wage altogether. Entry level workers will actually learn how to work and develop critical skills and over time earn what they are worth.
Is sweeping the floor worth $7.25 an hour (times 35 or 40 hours a week)? Maybe instead, the boss will decide that he can do it himself and not hire or keep that person, or pay another worker a small bonus for doing the job.
"And I have always thought it best to put forth good policies that benefit the majority of Americans as a primary goal of both parties."
I think I get it now.
From each according to his means to each according to his needs.
Is that close?
'The greater good' is the reasoning that gave us the Kelo decision. Protecting our liberty and rights is the only proper role of government. Setting wage rates does not fall within the government's legitimate functions.
Ahh, the old election year pandering and surrender of principle ritual.
Good advice. Not.
If, in winning the election, we become what we oppose, what do we 'win'?
Bad economic policy is bad economic policy. It doesn't become good if it helps to win an election. When republicans advocate cheaper versions of bad policy, all they are doing is giving credence to the bad policy.
He doesn't understand productivity. Otherwise he wouldn't make such stupid recommendations.
