The word "L33T" is the absurd shorthand technique that children use to send text messages on cellular telephones.

The term "L33T" or more accurately "L337" came from the absurd shorthand technique that children (like me) used to send text messages with ASCI characters long before people had cell phones.

Hi Durus-

Wow, you're a real hardcore shorthander since you truncated "ASCII" down to even shorter "ASCI" in your post! That stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange for those who might be interested. Hey, that's an intelligent and reasonable abbreviation I can support!

Typing something like "H20gate" or similar doesn't save time compared to simply writing "Watergate" for people to read.
