Strayhorn drops 'Grandma' issue after judge's ruling
AUSTIN (AP) - An independent candidate for Texas governor abruptly dropped her lawsuit Thursday to have "Grandma" listed as her nickname on the November ballot, saying the legal battle would distract from her campaign.
Hours earlier, a judge delivered Carole Keeton Strayhorn a setback, ruling the nickname was the secretary of state's decision and the court lacked jurisdiction.
Secretary of State Roger Williams denied Strayhorn's request to have her name listed as "Carole Keeton 'Grandma' Strayhorn" on the Nov. 7 ballot, saying "Grandma" is a slogan.
During a brief hearing, Judge Suzanne Covington asked what would prevent her from requesting that she be listed on the ballot as Suzanne "Best Judge in the Land" Covington.
Strayhorn, the state comptroller since 1999, contends many Texans know her as Grandma, and she calls herself "one tough grandma." She accused Williams of doing the bidding of Gov. Rick Perry, who appointed him.
Democrat Chris Bell, independent candidate Kinky Friedman and Libertarian James Werner also are competing to oust the Republican incumbent. Friedman's nickname was allowed on the ballot as Richard "Kinky" Friedman.
and the use of the word "Kinky." LOL
Crap, I was considering voting for her. Perhaps if Madonna endorses her, I can be convinced to back her again.
I agree with this ruling.
Amish "Studmuffin" Dude
But will they agree to put "Mother RINO" on the ballot instead ?
Good grief, it has seemed to voters that she has been more focused on getting "grandma" on the ballot than she has been on letting the voters know her platform and solutions she might have to Texas issues.
Good one
I've never heard this ex democrat (not) use "Grandma" as her nickname until her "One Tough Grandma" commercials earlier this year. She is just getting extra mileage from this distraction in the governor's race.
So. How much money is Perry gettign from the companies wanting to build the road most Texans do not want.
She left the Democratic Party in 1986. Her first husband wrote a book claiming that Democrat LBJ arranged the killing of Democrat JFK.
You've proven, in your short time here, that you hate business and business owners.
No surprise you'd equate contractors, who actually make something, to trial lawyers, who spend their time trying to take something away.
Whatever.
There were quite a number of Texans who left the democrat party after the peanut president. His politics were more than enough to make people here leave the liberal party. I know there were many Texans who voted for LBJ, just because he was from Texas.
I've lost track which one was her first husband? McClellan?
Her first husband was attorney Barr McClellan according to this google search.

She's an IINO now.
