I know, I know - stupid me, but I just had to go read the article to see if the author mentioned at all the thousands of rockets fired on civilians in Israel. Nope.

I had an argument with someone at the store today about Lebanon and Israel. They were the typical brain dead liberal - they had just seen Al Gore's campaign video, and were all fired up. They were critical of Israel's attacking of Lebanon.

And I asked them, have you perhaps wondered why there have been so few Israeli civilian casualties even though over a thousand rockets have been fired into civilian areas? They started on with something about US supplying superior weapons and I stopped them.

"In northern Israel, most every home has a hardened room for people to retreat into. Think about that. Random rockets raining down on your village is /so/ likely that you have a hardened room in your house, your village has community bomb shelters. The same can't be said for the Lebanese. Turn off your tunnel vision for a minute and think about what it would be like, knowing that in your home you not only have a room designed to help withstand random rocket attacks, but that you've likely used that room ten or more times in the past two years. Think about this and tell me how this is unprovoked."

They left soon after, but a lot of wind had been cut out of their sails.

That is a great point...thanks for bringing it up. Always make a point to ask what Israel's real agenda is as well...this always gets a great response....even the journalist who wrote the article never states what Israel's real agenda is if it isn't defensive. He says something about how they like to meddle in Lebanese politics and advance the US agenda in the Middle East. Wars are fought over land, resources and national defense. If Israel is fighting for land, they are really bad at it since they remain one of the smallest countries in the Middle East. If it is over resources, I have yet to see anyone make that claim. Defense is the only logical conclusion unless there are other reasons for war that I am not aware of.

I've posted this before, but I saw an interview with an American news editor that lived in Israel a while back. When she got there she could not believe the amount of people who had cell phones and thought it was funny how everyone seemed to be on them all of the time. She asked an Israeli about it, the response was, Israelis are in constant communication with their families when out in public because of bombings. Thats like calling your husband and saying I'm leaving Kroger now, I'm going into Old Navy, I'll call you when I leave. We get angry when our kids are late coming home, Israelis must be absolutely out of their minds fearing their kids are kidnapped and killed if they're 30 minutes late. Could you imagine living like that?
