Old embarrassments continue to haunt the extended Clinton family. Hillary Clinton’s brother Tony Rodham, like Roger Clinton and Hugh Rodham, faced multiple probes of his role in alleged money-for-pardon schemes. Government investigators say there’s evidence that Ed and Vonna Jo Gregory, carnival-company operators pardoned in 2000 for fraud convictions, paid Rodham $244,769 in salary and loaned him $79,000 over a 30-month period. But NEWSWEEK has learned the Gregorys failed to produce any record showing what Tony did for the money; investigators concluded he was paid to lobby the president for pardons. A lawyer for the Gregorys denied Rodham helped them get the pardons. Rodham’s lawyer said Rodham helped the Gregorys with a tax problem, but didn’t lobby for pardons.
