The GOP would have to lose 31 seats for the Dems to get a majority. I don't know if a disaster of that proportions is possible. If it is, this country is headed for serious trouble.
Isn't it 16 losses. After all not only would you have to subtract 16 R's but also add 16 D's.
It's 16 seats. That would be a net switch of 32. If the democrats actually won 30 seats, they would have a comfortable 28 member working majority with impeachment hearings being held around the clock.
Only if the Dems don't gain any. :)
It'll be interesting to see the cat fight between Pelosi & Murtha to be Speaker. It'll be a race to see who is the biggest boob.

I thought it was only 16. I could be wrong but I seem to remember hearing that for the last couple months.

Actually, there is currently a 29 seat difference - 231 to 202, 2 vacancies (if you count the Socialist Bernie Sanders as a Demoncrat). This means that if the Republicans lose a net 15 seats, the Demoncrats will be in control (216-217, plus what the 2 vacancies end up being - one of the vacancies is Tom DeLay's old seat and the other is Robert Menendez' old seat, so they will split at best).
